Volunteers
Palliative Care Patient Volunteers are an integral part of the Palliative Care Service, and are co-ordinated by a Co-ordinator of Volunteers. The Service runs a Patient Volunteer Training Course when the need for additional volunteers is required. A Volunteer Standards Manual was originally compiled by the Education sub-committee and launched during Hospice Awareness Week in 1997. The Standards Manual has since been incorporated into a Training and Standards manual, which is updated annually.
The Service currently has over twenty volunteers who participate in ongoing education as part of their normal program. A Patient Volunteer Information Package is available on request from the Co-ordinator of Volunteers, Ph. (03) 5822 0068.
